"You shall not makefor yourself an idol,or anylikenessof whatis in heavenaboveor on the earthbeneathor in the waterunderthe earth.
So the kingconsulted,and madetwogoldencalves,and he saidto them, "It is toomuchfor you to goup to Jerusalem;beholdyour gods,O Israel,that broughtyou up from the landof Egypt."
They servedidols,concerning whichthe LORDhad saidto them, "You shall not dothisthing."
Then he putthe carvedimageof the idolwhichhe had madein the houseof God,of whichGodhad saidto Davidand to Solomonhis son,"In thishouseand in Jerusalem,whichI have chosenfrom allthe tribesof Israel,I will putMy nameforever;
For they provokedHim with their highplacesAnd aroused His jealousywith their gravenimages.
Let allthose be ashamedwho servegravenimages,Who boastthemselves of idols;WorshipHim, allyou gods.
You shall not make[other gods] besidesMe; godsof silveror godsof gold,you shall not makefor yourselves.
Now when the peoplesawthat Mosesdelayedto comedownfrom the mountain,the peopleassembledaboutAaronand saidto him, "Come,makeus a godwhowill gobeforeus; as for thisMoses,the manwhobroughtus up from the landof Egypt,we do not knowwhathas becomeof him."
"For they saidto me, 'Makea godfor us whowill gobeforeus; for thisMoses,the manwhobroughtus up from the landof Egypt,we do not knowwhathas becomeof him.'
He took[this] from their hand,and fashionedit with a gravingtooland madeit into a moltencalf;and they said,"Thisis your god,O Israel,whobroughtyou up from the landof Egypt."
"They have quicklyturnedasidefrom the waywhichI commandedthem. They have madefor themselves a moltencalf,and have worshipedit and have sacrificedto it and said,Thisis your god,O Israel,whobroughtyou up from the landof Egypt!'"
"You shall makefor yourself nomoltengods.
They will be turnedback[and] be utterlyputto shame,Who trustin idols,Who sayto moltenimages,"You are our gods."
"I am the LORD,that is My name;I will not giveMy gloryto another,NorMy praiseto gravenimages.
They will be putto shameand evenhumiliated,allof them; The manufacturersof idolswill goaway togetherin humiliation.
"I saidto them, 'Castaway,eachof you, the detestablethingsof his eyes,and do not defileyourselves with the idolsof Egypt;I am the LORDyour God.'
So I enteredand looked,and behold,everyformof creepingthingsand beasts[and] detestablethings,with allthe idolsof the houseof Israel,were carvedon the wallallaround.
He stretchedout the formof a handand caughtme by a lockof my head;and the Spiritliftedme up betweenearthand heavenand broughtme in the visionsof Godto Jerusalem,to the entranceof the northgateof the inner[court], wherethe seatof the idolof jealousy,whichprovokesto jealousy,was [located].
Do not turnto idolsor makefor yourselves moltengods;I am the LORDyour God.
You shall not makefor yourselves idols,norshall you setup for yourselves an imageor a [sacred] pillar,norshall you placea figuredstonein your landto bowdownto it; for I am the LORDyour God.
With him I speakmouthto mouth,Even openly,and not in darksayings,And he beholdsthe formof the LORD.Whythen were you not afraidTo speakagainst My servant,against Moses?"
"Beingthenthe childrenof God,we oughtnot to thinkthat the Divine Natureis likegoldorsilverorstone,an image formedby the artand thoughtof man.
and exchangedthe gloryof the incorruptibleGodfor an imagein the formof corruptiblemanand of birdsand four-footed animalsand crawling creatures.
"You shall not setup for yourself a [sacred] pillarwhichthe LORDyour Godhates.
Cursedis the manwhomakesan idolor a moltenimage,an abominationto the LORD,the workof the handsof the craftsman,and sets[it] up in secret.'And allthe peopleshall answerand say,'Amen.'
You shall not makefor yourself an idol,[or] anylikeness[of] whatis in heavenaboveor on the earthbeneathor in the waterunderthe earth.
Sothe first[angel] wentand pouredout his bowlon the earth;and it becamea loathsomeand malignantsoreon the peoplewho hadthe markof the beastand who worshipedhis image.
The restof mankind,whowere not killedby theseplagues,did not repentof the worksof their hands,soas not to worshipdemons,and the idolsof goldand of silverand of brassand of stoneand of wood,whichcanneitherseenorhearnorwalk;
He then returnedthe elevenhundred[pieces] of silverto his mother,and his mothersaid,"I whollydedicatethe silverfrom my handto the LORDfor my sonto makea gravenimageand a moltenimage;nowtherefore, I will returnthem to you."
