"The peopleshave heard,they tremble;Anguishhas grippedthe inhabitantsof Philistia.
Then the fameof Davidwentout into allthe lands;and the LORDbroughtthe fearof him on allthe nations.
Panicseizedthem there,Anguish,as of a woman in childbirth.
With the eastwindYou breakthe shipsof Tarshish.
"Do not rejoice,O Philistia,allof you, Becausethe rodthat struckyou is broken;For from the serpent'sroota viperwill comeout, And its fruitwill be a flyingserpent.
"Wail,O gate;cry,O city;Meltaway, O Philistia,allof you; For smokecomesfrom the north,And thereis nostragglerin his ranks.
Whenthe report[reaches] Egypt,They will be in anguishat the reportof Tyre.
"I will also troublethe heartsof manypeopleswhen I bringyour destructionamong the nations,into landswhichyou have not known.
He stoodand surveyedthe earth;He lookedand startledthe nations.Yes, the perpetualmountainswere shattered,The ancienthillscollapsed.His waysare everlasting.
I sawthe tentsof Cushanunderdistress,The tentcurtainsof the landof Midianwere trembling.
and they will tell[it] to the inhabitantsof thisland.They have heardthat You, O LORD,are in the midstof thispeople,for You, O LORD,are seeneyeto eye,while Your cloudstandsoverthem; and You gobeforethem in a pillarof cloudby dayand in a pillarof fireby night.
So he sentmessengersto Balaamthe sonof Beor,at Pethor,whichis nearthe River,[in] the landof the sonsof his people,to callhim, saying,"Behold,a peoplecameout of Egypt;behold,they coverthe surfaceof the land,and they are livingoppositeme.
ThisdayI will beginto putthe dreadand fearof you upon the peopleseverywhereunderthe heavens,who,when they hearthe reportof you, will trembleand be in anguishbecauseof you.'
that he fearedgreatly,becauseGibeon[was] a greatcity,like oneof the royalcities,and becauseit was greaterthanAi,and allits men[were] mighty.
"When we heard[it], our heartsmeltedand nocourageremainedin anymananylongerbecauseof you; for the LORDyour God,He is Godin heavenaboveand on earthbeneath.
So they answeredJoshuaand said,"Becauseit was certainlytoldyour servantsthat the LORDyour Godhad commandedHis servantMosesto giveyou allthe land,and to destroyallthe inhabitantsof the landbeforeyou; therefore we fearedgreatlyfor our livesbecauseof you, and have donethisthing.
They saidto him, "Your servantshave comefrom a veryfarcountrybecause of the fameof the LORDyour God;for we have heardthe reportof Him and allthat He didin Egypt,
The Philistineswere afraid,for they said,"Godhas comeinto the camp."And they said,"Woeto us! For nothinglike thishas happenedbefore.
"Woeto us! Whoshall deliverus from the handof thesemightygods?Theseare the godswho smotethe Egyptianswith all[kinds of] plaguesin the wilderness.
