Since Lyddawas nearJoppa,the disciples,having heardthat Peterwas there,senttwomento him, imploringhim, "Do not delayin comingto us."
"We will cutwhatevertimberyou needfrom Lebanonand bringit to you on raftsby seato Joppa,so that you may carryit up to Jerusalem."
Then they gavemoneyto the masonsand carpenters,and food,drinkand oilto the Sidoniansand to the Tyrians,to bringcedarwoodfrom Lebanonto the seaat Joppa,according to the permissionthey had from Cyruskingof Persia.
But Jonahroseup to fleeto Tarshishfrom the presenceof the LORD.So he wentdownto Joppa,founda shipwhich was goingto Tarshish,paidthe fareand wentdowninto it to gowith them to Tarshishfrom the presenceof the LORD.
"Nowdispatch[some] mento Joppaand sendfor a man[named] Simon,whois also calledPeter;
and after he had explainedeverythingto them, he sentthem to Joppa.
"And he reportedto us howhe had seenthe angelstandingin his house,and saying,'Sendto Joppaand have Simon,who is also calledPeter,brought here;
and when he had foundhim, he broughthim to Antioch.And for an entireyearthey metwith the churchand taughtconsiderablenumbers;and the discipleswere firstcalledChristiansin Antioch.
"I was in the cityof Joppapraying;and in a tranceI sawa vision,an objectcoming downlikea greatsheetloweredby fourcornersfrom the sky;and it camerightdown to me,
and he tookfoodand was strengthened.Nowfor severaldayshe was with the discipleswho were at Damascus,
Nowas Peterwas traveling throughall[those regions], he came downalsoto the saintswho livedat Lydda.
Nowin Joppathere was a disciplenamedTabitha(whichtranslated[in Greek] is calledDorcas);this womanwas aboundingwith deedsof kindnessand charitywhichshe continually did.
It becameknownalloverJoppa,and manybelievedin the Lord.
And Peter stayedmanydaysin Joppawith a tanner[named] Simon.
and Me-jarkonand Rakkon,with the territoryoveragainstJoppa.
