"But He gavehim noinheritancein it, not evena footof ground,and [yet], even when he had nochild,He promisedthat HE WOULD GIVEIT TO HIM AS A POSSESSION,AND TO HIS DESCENDANTSAFTERHIM.
The LORDappearedto Abramand said,"To your descendantsI will givethisland."So he builtan altarthereto the LORDwho had appearedto him.
for allthe landwhichyou see,I will giveit to you and to your descendantsforever.
On that daythe LORDmadea covenantwith Abram,saying,"To your descendantsI have giventhisland,From the riverof Egyptas faras the greatriver,the riverEuphrates:
So Saraisaidto Abram,"Nowbehold,the LORDhas preventedme from bearing[children]. Pleasegoin to my maid;perhapsI will obtainchildrenthroughher." And Abramlistenedto the voiceof Sarai.
"I will giveto you and to your descendantsafteryou, the landof your sojournings,allthe landof Canaan,for an everlastingpossession;and I will be their God."
"I am a strangerand a sojourneramongyou; giveme a burialsiteamongyou that I may burymy deadout of my sight."
"Sojournin thislandand I will be with you and blessyou, for to you and to your descendantsI will givealltheselands,and I will establishthe oathwhichI sworeto your fatherAbraham.
"You foundhis heartfaithfulbeforeYou, And madea covenantwith him To give[him] the landof the Canaanite,Of the Hittiteand the Amorite,Of the Perizzite,the Jebusiteand the Girgashite--To give[it] to his descendants.And You have fulfilledYour promise,For You are righteous.
"Sonof man,they who livein thesewasteplacesin the landof Israelare saying,Abrahamwas [only] one,yet he possessedthe land;so to us whoare manythe landhas been givenas a possession.'
"Then the LORDsaidto me, 'Arise,proceedon your journeyaheadof the people,that they may goin and possessthe landwhichI sworeto their fathersto givethem.'
so that you may prolong[your] dayson the landwhichthe LORDsworeto your fathersto giveto them and to their descendants,a landflowingwith milkand honey.
do not provokethem, for I will not giveyou anyof their land,even[as little as] a footstepbecauseI have givenMountSeirto Esauas a possession.
Then the LORDsaidto him, "Thisis the landwhichI sworeto Abraham,Isaac,and Jacob,saying,'I will giveit to your descendants;I have let you see[it] with your eyes,but you shall not gooverthere."
"It is not for your righteousnessor for the uprightnessof your heartthat you are goingto possesstheir land,but [it is] becauseof the wickednessof thesenations[that] the LORDyour Godis drivingthem out beforeyou, in orderto confirmthe oathwhichthe LORDsworeto your fathers,to Abraham,Isaacand Jacob.
