When Herodhad searchedfor him and had not foundhim, he examinedthe guardsand orderedthat they be led away[to execution]. Thenhe went downfrom Judeato Caesareaand was spending timethere.
So the kingof Israelwentto his housesullenand vexed,and cameto Samaria.
Then Mordecaireturnedto the king'sgate.But Hamanhurriedhome,mourning,with [his] headcovered.
And the kingcommandedJerahmeelthe king'sson,Seraiahthe sonof Azriel,and Shelemiahthe sonof Abdeelto seizeBaruchthe scribeand Jeremiahthe prophet,but the LORDhidthem.
Nowafter Jesuswas bornin Bethlehemof Judeain the daysof Herodthe king,magifrom the eastarrivedin Jerusalem,saying,
Nowwhen they had gone,behold,an angelof the Lordappearedto Josephin a dreamand said,"Getup! Takethe Childand His motherand fleeto Egypt,and remainthereuntilI tellyou; for Herodis goingto searchfor the Childto destroyHim."
Thenwhen Herodsawthat he had been trickedby the magi,he became veryenraged,and sentand slewallthe male childrenwho were in Bethlehemand allits vicinity,from two years oldand under,accordingto the timewhichhe had determinedfrom the magi.
Nowwhen daycame,there was nosmalldisturbanceamongthe soldiers[as to] whatcould have becomeof Peter.
When he had seizedhim, he puthim in prison,deliveringhim to foursquadsof soldiersto guardhim, intendingafterthe Passoverto bringhim out before the people.
On the verynightwhenHerodwas aboutto bring him forward,Peterwas sleepingbetweentwosoldiers,boundwith twochains,and guardsin frontof the doorwere watching overthe prison.
When the jailerawokeand sawthe prisondoorsopened,he drewhis swordand was aboutto killhimself,supposingthat the prisonershad escaped.
On the next daywe leftand cameto Caesarea,and enteringthe houseof Philipthe evangelist,who was one of the seven,we stayedwith him.
Nowwhen severaldayshad elapsed,KingAgrippaand Bernicearrivedat Caesareaand paid their respectsto Festus.
The soldiers'planwas to killthe prisoners,so that none[of them] would swim awayand escape;
But Philipfoundhimself at Azotus,and as he passed throughhe kept preaching the gospelto allthe citiesuntilhe cameto Caesarea.
Davidstayedin the wildernessin the strongholds,and remainedin the hillcountryin the wildernessof Ziph.And Saulsoughthim everyday,but Goddid not deliverhim into his hand.
