Now afterthisit cameabout that Daviddefeatedthe Philistinesand subduedthem; and Davidtookcontrolof the chiefcityfrom the handof the Philistines.
Allthe peoplewere quarrelingthroughout allthe tribesof Israel,saying,"The kingdeliveredus from the handof our enemiesand savedus from the handof the Philistines,but nowhe has fledout of the landfrom Absalom.
But Joaband AbishaipursuedAbner,and when the sunwas goingdown, they cameto the hillof Ammah,whichis in frontof Giahby the wayof the wildernessof Gibeon.
"You have also deliveredme from the contentionsof my people;You have keptme as headof the nations;A peoplewhom I have not knownserveme.
When the Philistinesheardthat they had anointedDavidkingoverIsrael,allthe Philistineswentup to seekout David;and when Davidheard[of it], he wentdownto the stronghold.
Then Daviddidso,justas the LORDhad commandedhim, and struckdownthe Philistinesfrom Gebaas faras Gezer.
"I have beenwith you whereveryou have goneand have cutoffallyour enemiesfrom beforeyou; and I will makeyou a greatname,like the namesof the greatmenwhoare on the earth.
You have deliveredme from the contentionsof the people;You have placedme as headof the nations;A peoplewhom I have not knownserveme.
You have made the landquake,You have splitit open;Healits breaches,for it totters.
"Moabis My washbowl;OverEdomI shall throwMy shoe;Shoutloud,O Philistia,becauseof Me!"
whoby faithconqueredkingdoms,performed[acts of] righteousness,obtainedpromises,shutthe mouthsof lions,
quenchedthe powerof fire,escapedthe edgeof the sword,from weaknesswere made strong,becamemightyin war,putforeignarmiesto flight.
So the Philistineswere subduedand they didnot comeanymorewithin the borderof Israel.And the handof the LORDwas against the Philistinesallthe daysof Samuel.
