Thus they buriedAbnerin Hebron;and the kingliftedup his voiceand weptat the graveof Abner,and allthe peoplewept.
They mournedand weptand fasteduntileveningfor Sauland his sonJonathanand for the peopleof the LORDand the houseof Israel,becausethey had fallenby the sword.
The kingwas deeplymovedand wentup to the chamberoverthe gateand wept.And thushe saidas he walked,"O my sonAbsalom,my son,my sonAbsalom!WouldI had diedinsteadof you, O Absalom,my son,my son!"
Then Davidcommandedthe youngmen,and they killedthem and cutofftheir handsand feetand hungthem up besidethe poolin Hebron.But they tookthe headof Ish-boshethand buriedit in the graveof Abnerin Hebron.
That toowould have been an iniquity[calling for] judgment,For I would have deniedGodabove.
"Have I rejoicedat the extinctionof my enemy,Or exultedwhenevilbefellhim?
Do not rejoicewhen your enemyfalls,And do not let your heartbe gladwhen he stumbles;
Then Davidand the peoplewhowere with him liftedtheir voicesand weptuntiltherewas nostrengthin them to weep.
