The kingthen returnedand cameas faras the Jordan.And Judahcameto Gilgalin order to goto meetthe king,to bringthe kingacrossthe Jordan.
Now a worthlessfellowhappenedto be therewhose namewas Sheba,the sonof Bichri,a Benjamite;and he blewthe trumpetand said,"We havenoportionin David,Nordo we have inheritancein the sonof Jesse;Everymanto his tents,O Israel!"
"Suchis not the case.But a manfrom the hillcountryof Ephraim,Shebathe sonof Bichriby name,has liftedup his handagainst KingDavid.Onlyhandhim over,and I will departfrom the city."And the womansaidto Joab,"Behold,his headwill be thrownto you overthe wall."
Then Davidcameto his houseat Jerusalem,and the kingtookthe tenwomen,the concubineswhomhe had leftto keepthe house,and placedthem under guardand providedthem with sustenance,but did not goin to them. So they were shutup untilthe dayof their death,livingas widows.
It cameabout when allIsraelheardthat Jeroboamhad returned,that they sentand calledhim to the assemblyand madehim kingoverallIsrael.Nonebut the tribeof Judahfollowedthe houseof David.
But as for the sonsof Israelwho livedin the citiesof Judah,Rehoboamreignedoverthem.
Menof lowdegreeare onlyvanityand menof rankare a lie;In the balancesthey goup; They are togetherlighter thanbreath.
The beginningof strifeis [like] lettingout water,So abandonthe quarrelbeforeit breaksout.
