Then Davidsentto Joab,[saying], "Sendme Uriahthe Hittite."So JoabsentUriahto David.
"Ifyou dowell,will not [your countenance] be liftedup? And ifyou do not dowell,sinis crouchingat the door;and its desireis for you, but you must masterit."
The womanconceived;and she sentand toldDavid,and said,"I ampregnant."
When Uriahcameto him, Davidaskedconcerning the welfareof Joaband the peopleand the stateof the war.
Uriahthe Hittite;thirty-sevenin all.
He who concealshis transgressionswill not prosper,But he who confessesand forsakes[them] will findcompassion.
Then the Lordsaid,"Becausethispeopledrawnearwith their wordsAnd honorMe with their lipservice,But they removetheir heartsfarfrom Me, And their reverencefor Me consistsof traditionlearned[by rote],
But he denied[it] beforethem all,saying,"I do not knowwhatyou are talkingabout."
And againhe denied[it] with an oath,"I do not knowthe man."
Thenhe beganto curseand swear,"I do not knowthe man!"And immediatelya roostercrowed.
Then he said,"I have sinned;[but] pleasehonorme nowbeforethe eldersof my peopleand beforeIsrael,and gobackwith me, that I may worshipthe LORDyour God."
