Then Gehazipassedon beforethem and laidthe staffon the lad'sface,but therewas nosoundorresponse.So he returnedto meethim and toldhim, "The ladhas not awakened."
Then they tookthe oxwhichwas giventhem and they preparedit and calledon the nameof Baalfrom morninguntilnoonsaying,"O Baal,answerus." But therewas novoiceand nooneanswered.And they leapedaboutthe altarwhichthey made.
When middaywas past,they raveduntilthe time of the offeringof the [evening] sacrifice;but therewas novoice,nooneanswered,and noonepaidattention.
When Elishacameinto the house,beholdthe ladwas deadand laidon his bed.
But Gehazi,the servantof Elishathe manof God,thought,"Behold,my masterhas sparedthisNaamanthe Aramean,by not receivingfrom his handswhathe brought.As the LORDlives,I will runafterhim and takesomethingfrom him."
Now Elishaspoketo the womanwhosesonhe had restoredto life,saying,"Ariseand gowith your household,and sojournwhereveryou can sojourn;for the LORDhas calledfor a famine,and it will evencomeon the landfor sevenyears."
So manliesdownand does not rise.Untilthe heavensare nolonger,He will not awakenorbe arousedout of his sleep.
"Sonof man,thesemenhave setup their idolsin their heartsand have putrightbeforetheir facesthe stumblingblockof their iniquity.Should I be consultedby them at all?
"Manyof those whosleepin the dustof the groundwill awake,theseto everlastinglife,but the othersto disgrace[and] everlastingcontempt.
And enteringin, He saidto them, "Whymake a commotionand weep?The childhas not died,but is asleep."
ThisHe said,and afterthat He saidto them, "Our friendLazarushas fallen asleep;but I go,sothat I may awaken him out of sleep."
For this reasonit says,"Awake,sleeper,And arisefrom the dead,And Christwill shineon you."
Saulinquiredof God,"Shall I godownafterthe Philistines?Will You givethem into the handof Israel?"But He did not answerhim on that day.
When Saulinquiredof the LORD,the LORDdid not answerhim, eitherby dreamsorby Urimorby prophets.
