He trustedin the LORD,the Godof Israel;so that afterhim there was nonelikehim among allthe kingsof Judah,nor[among those] whowere beforehim.
Then Rabshakehsaidto them, "Saynowto Hezekiah,'Thussaysthe greatking,the kingof Assyria,"Whatis thisconfidencethat you have?
"Thusyou shall sayto Hezekiahkingof Judah,Do not let your Godin whomyou trustdeceiveyou saying,"Jerusalemwill not be giveninto the handof the kingof Assyria."
Beforehim there was nokinglikehim whoturnedto the LORDwith allhis heartand with allhis souland with allhis might,according to allthe lawof Moses;nordid any likehim ariseafterhim.
Then Asacalledto the LORDhis Godand said,"LORD,thereis noonebesidesYou to help[in the battle] betweenthe powerfuland those who havenostrength;so helpus, O LORDour God,for we trustin You, and in Your namehave comeagainstthismultitude.O LORD,You are our God;let not manprevailagainstYou."
They roseearlyin the morningand wentout to the wildernessof Tekoa;and when they wentout, Jehoshaphatstoodand said,"Listento me, O Judahand inhabitantsof Jerusalem,putyour trustin the LORDyour Godand you will be established.Putyour trustin His prophetsand succeed."
AfterthisJehoshaphatkingof Judahalliedhimself with Ahaziahkingof Israel.He actedwickedlyin so doing.
"ThoughHe slayme, I will hopein Him. NeverthelessI will arguemy waysbeforeHim.
But I have trustedin Your lovingkindness;My heartshall rejoicein Your salvation.
O LORDof hosts,How blessedis the manwho trustsin You!
"But ifyou sayto me, 'We trustin the LORDour God,'is it not He whosehighplacesand whose altarsHezekiahhas takenawayand has saidto Judahand to Jerusalem,'You shall worshipbeforethisaltar'?
and said,"Remembernow,OLORD,I beseechYou, howI have walkedbeforeYou in truthand with a wholeheart,and have donewhatis goodin Your sight."And Hezekiahweptbitterly.
"HE TRUSTSIN GOD;LET GODRESCUE[Him] now,IFHE DELIGHTSIN HIM; for He said,'I amthe Sonof God.'"
to the endthat we who were the first to hopein Christwould be to the praiseof His glory.
