Asaand the peoplewho[were] with him pursuedthem as faras Gerar;and so many Ethiopiansfellthat they could not recover,for they were shatteredbeforethe LORDand beforeHis army.And they carriedaway verymuchplunder.
Now theseare [the records of] the generationsof Shem,Ham,and Japheth,the sonsof Noah;and sonswere bornto them afterthe flood.
The territoryof the Canaaniteextendedfrom Sidonas you gotoward Gerar,as faras Gaza;as you gotoward Sodomand Gomorrahand Admahand Zeboiim,as faras Lasha.
Now Abrahamjourneyedfrom theretoward the landof the Negev,and settledbetweenKadeshand Shur;then he sojournedin Gerar.
Now there was a faminein the land,besidesthe previousfaminethat had occurredin the daysof Abraham.So Isaacwentto Gerar,to Abimelechkingof the Philistines.
As they journeyed,there was a greatterrorupon the citieswhichwere aroundthem, and they did not pursuethe sonsof Jacob.
For dayby day[men] cameto Davidto helphim, untilthere was a greatarmylike the armyof God.
with 1,200chariotsand 60,000horsemen.And the peoplewhocamewith him from Egyptwere withoutnumber:the Lubim,the Sukkiimand the Ethiopians.
They destroyedallthe citiesaroundGerar,for the dreadof the LORDhad fallenon them; and they despoiledallthe cities,for there was muchplunderin them.
They sacrificedto the LORDthat day700oxenand 7,000sheepfrom the spoilthey had brought.
Now the dreadof the LORDwas on allthe kingdomsof the landswhich[were] aroundJudah,so that they did not makewaragainstJehoshaphat.
And the dreadof Godwas on allthe kingdomsof the landswhen they heardthat the LORDhad foughtagainstthe enemiesof Israel.
"Would that Godwere willingto crushme, That He would looseHis handand cutme off!
"Wisein heartand mightyin strength,Whohas defiedHim withoutharm?
Have not You Yourself, O God,rejectedus? And will You not goforthwith our armies,O God?
Thesewill paythe penaltyof eternaldestruction,awayfrom the presenceof the Lordand from the gloryof His power,
He said,"No;ratherI indeedcomenow[as] captainof the hostof the LORD."And Joshuafellon his faceto the earth,and boweddown,and saidto him, "Whathas my lordto sayto his servant?"
"Pleaseforgivethe transgressionof your maidservant;for the LORDwill certainlymakefor my lordan enduringhouse,becausemy lordis fightingthe battlesof the LORD,and evilwill not be foundin you allyour days.
