Now Davidhad said,"Surelyin vainI have guardedallthat this[man] has in the wilderness,so that nothingwas missedof allthat belonged to him; and he has returnedme evilfor good.
They had [just] goneout of the city,[and] were not faroff, when Josephsaidto his housesteward,"Up, followthe men;and when you overtakethem, sayto them, 'Whyhave you repaidevilfor good?
"Fools,eventhosewithouta name,They were scourgedfrom the land.
They repayme evilfor good,[To] the bereavementof my soul.
Ceasefrom angerand forsakewrath;Do not fret;[it leads] onlyto evildoing.
And those who repayevilfor good,They opposeme, becauseI followwhatis good.
He who returnsevilfor good,Evilwill not departfrom his house.
Should goodbe repaidwith evil?For they have duga pitfor me. Rememberhow I stoodbeforeYou To speakgoodon their behalf,So as to turnawayYour wrathfrom them.
Do not be overcomeby evil,but overcomeevilwith good.
BE ANGRY,AND [yet] DO NOT SIN;do not let the sungo downon your anger,
Let allbitternessand wrathand angerand clamorand slanderbe put awayfrom you, alongwith allmalice.
Seethat noonerepaysanotherwith evilfor evil,but alwaysseek afterthat which is goodfor one anotherand for all people.
For it is better,ifGodshould willit so, that you sufferfor doing what is rightrather thanfor doing what is wrong.
not returningevilfor evilorinsultfor insult,but giving a blessinginstead;for you were calledfor the verypurpose that you might inherita blessing.
Davidsaidto his men,"Each[of you] girdon his sword."So eachmangirdedon his sword.And Davidalsogirdedon his sword,and about fourhundredmenwentup behindDavidwhile two hundredstayedwith the baggage.
"Yet the menwere verygoodto us, and we were not insulted,nordid we missanythingas longas we wentabout with them, while we were in the fields.

NowI have heardthat you have shearers;nowyour shepherdshave beenwith us and we have not insultedthem, norhave they missedanythingallthe daysthey were in Carmel.
