Then Jonathansaidto David,"The LORD,the Godof Israel,[be witness]! WhenI have soundedout my fatherabout this timetomorrow,[or] the thirdday, behold,if there is good[feeling] towardDavid,shall I not thensendto you and makeit knownto you?
But the kingsparedMephibosheth,the sonof Jonathanthe sonof Saul,becauseof the oathof the LORDwhichwas betweenthem, betweenDavidand Saul'ssonJonathan.
"Does He not seemy waysAnd numberallmy steps?
You have triedmy heart;You have visited[me] by night;You have testedme and You findnothing;I have purposedthat my mouthwill not transgress.
A planin the heartof a manis [like] deepwater,But a manof understandingdrawsit out.
"The MightyOne,God,the LORD,the MightyOne,God,the LORD!He knows,and may Israelitselfknow.If[it was] in rebellion,or ifin an unfaithfulactagainst the LORDdo not saveus thisday!
Jonathansaidto David,"Come,and let us goout into the field."So bothof them wentout to the field.
"Ifit pleasemy father[to do] you harm,may the LORDdosoto Jonathanand morealso,if I do not makeit knownto you and sendyou away,that you may goin safety.And may the LORDbe with you as He has beenwith my father.
So the twoof them madea covenantbeforethe LORD;and Davidstayedat Horeshwhile Jonathanwentto his house.
