So the menof the garrisonhailedJonathanand his armorbearerand said,"Comeup to us and we will tellyou something."And Jonathansaidto his armorbearer,"Comeup afterme, for the LORDhas giventhem into the handsof Israel."
"So I cametodayto the spring,and said,'O LORD,the Godof my masterAbraham,ifnowYou will make my journeyon whichI gosuccessful;
"And I bowedlowand worshipedthe LORD,and blessedthe LORD,the Godof my masterAbraham,whohad guidedme in the rightwayto takethe daughterof my master'skinsmanfor his son.
"It shall be, when you hearthe soundof marchingin the topsof the balsamtrees,thenyou shall actpromptly,for thenthe LORDwill have goneout beforeyou to strikethe armyof the Philistines."
ThenAmaziahsentmessengersto Jehoash,the sonof Jehoahazsonof Jehu,kingof Israel,saying,"Come,let us faceeach other."
Deborahsaidto Barak,"Arise!For thisis the dayin whichthe LORDhas givenSiserainto your hands;behold,the LORDhas goneout beforeyou." So Barakwentdownfrom MountTaborwith tenthousandmenfollowinghim.
His friendreplied,"Thisis nothinglessthanthe swordof Gideonthe sonof Joash,a manof Israel;Godhas givenMidianand allthe campinto his hand."
When Gideonheardthe accountof the dreamand its interpretation,he bowedin worship.He returnedto the campof Israeland said,"Arise,for the LORDhas giventhe campof Midianinto your hands."
Then he calledquicklyto the youngman,his armorbearer,and saidto him, "Drawyour swordand killme, sothat it will not be saidof me, 'A womanslewhim.'" So the youngmanpiercedhim through,and he died.
"But ifthey say,'Comeup to us,' then we will goup, for the LORDhas giventhem into our hands;and thisshall be the signto us."
Then Jonathanclimbedup on his handsand feet,with his armorbearerbehindhim; and they fellbeforeJonathan,and his armorbearerputsome to deathafterhim.
