Then Solomonstoodbeforethe altarof the LORDin the presenceof allthe assemblyof Israeland spreadout his handstoward heaven.
"Ifthere is faminein the land,ifthere is pestilence,ifthere is blight[or] mildew,locust[or] grasshopper,iftheir enemybesiegesthem in the landof their cities,whateverplague,whateversickness[there is],
then hearin heavenYour dwellingplace,and forgiveand actand renderto eachaccording to allhis ways,whoseheartYou know,for You aloneknowthe heartsof allthe sonsof men,
whateverprayeror supplicationis madeby anymanor by allYour peopleIsrael,eachknowinghis own afflictionand his own pain,and spreadinghis handstowardthishouse,
"ThereforeI will not restrainmy mouth;I will speakin the anguishof my spirit,I will complainin the bitternessof my soul.
Whyare you in despair,O my soul?And whyhave you becomedisturbedwithinme? Hopein God,for I shall yetpraiseHim, The helpof my countenanceand my God.
O my God,my soulis in despairwithinme; ThereforeI rememberYou from the landof the JordanAnd the peaks of Hermon,from MountMizar.
I will sayto Godmy rock,"Whyhave You forgottenme? Whydo I gomourningbecause of the oppressionof the enemy?"
Callupon Me in the dayof trouble;I shall rescueyou, and you will honorMe."
"He will callupon Me, and I will answerhim; I will be with him in trouble;I will rescuehim and honorhim.
Mosessaidto him, "As soon as I goout of the city,I will spreadout my handsto the LORD;the thunderwill ceaseand there will be hailnolonger,that you may knowthat the earthis the LORD'S.
The heartknowsits ownbitterness,And a strangerdoes not shareits joy.
"So when you spreadout your hands[in prayer], I will hideMy eyesfrom you; Yes,eventhoughyou multiplyprayers,I will not listen.Your handsare coveredwith blood.
Perhapsthe LORDyour Godwill hearthe wordsof Rabshakeh,whomhis masterthe kingof Assyriahas sentto reproachthe livingGod,and will rebukethe wordswhichthe LORDyour Godhas heard.Therefore, offera prayerfor the remnantthat is left.'"
Let the priests,the LORD'Sministers,Weepbetweenthe porchand the altar,And let them say,"SpareYour people,O LORD,And do not makeYour inheritancea reproach,A bywordamong the nations.Whyshould they among the peoplessay,Whereis their God?'"
"Ifthe leprosybreaksout fartheron the skin,and the leprosycoversallthe skinof [him who has] the infectionfrom his headeven to his feet,as faras the priestcan see,
"So I said,I have been expelledfrom Your sight.NeverthelessI will lookagaintowardYour holytemple.'
Wretchedmanthat I am! Whowill set me freefrom the bodyof thisdeath?
Be anxiousfor nothing,but in everythingby prayerand supplicationwith thanksgivinglet your requestsbe made knownto God.
