Davidwas thenin the stronghold,while the garrisonof the Philistines[was] thenin Bethlehem.
When the Philistinesheardthat they had anointedDavidkingoverIsrael,allthe Philistineswentup to seekout David;and when Davidheard[of it], he wentdownto the stronghold.
Davidhada cravingand said,"Ohthat someonewould giveme waterto drinkfrom the wellof Bethlehem,whichis by the gate!"
I cryaloudwith my voiceto the LORD;I makesupplicationwith my voiceto the LORD.
"Afterwardyou will cometo the hillof Godwherethe Philistinegarrisonis; and it shall be as soon as you have comethereto the city,that you will meeta groupof prophetscomingdownfrom the highplacewith harp,tambourine,flute,and a lyrebeforethem, and they will be prophesying.
And the garrisonof the Philistineswentout to the passof Michmash.
AllIsraelheardthe newsthat Saulhad smittenthe garrisonof the Philistines,and alsothat Israelhad becomeodiousto the Philistines.The peoplewere then summonedto Saulat Gilgal.
So Daviddepartedfrom thereand escapedto the caveof Adullam;and when his brothersand allhis father'shouseholdheard[of it], they wentdownthereto him.
Then he leftthem with the kingof Moab;and they stayedwith him allthe timethat Davidwas in the stronghold.
The prophetGadsaidto David,"Do not stayin the stronghold;depart,and gointo the landof Judah."So Daviddepartedand wentinto the forestof Hereth.
When Sauland his menwentto seek[him], they toldDavid,and he camedownto the rockand stayedin the wildernessof Maon.And when Saulheard[it], he pursuedDavidin the wildernessof Maon.
