O Lord, unto my pray'r give ear, my cry let come to thee;


Waters had cover'd us, our soul had sunk beneath the stream.


When in me was o'erwhelm'd my sp'rit, then well thou knew'st my way; Where I did walk a snare for me they privily did lay.


I look'd on my right hand, and view'd, but none to know me were; All refuge failed me, no man did for my soul take care.


Turn unto me thy face, and to me mercy show; Because that I am desolate, and am brought very low.


On me comes trembling, fear and dread o'erwhelmed me withal.


From th' utmost corner of the land my cry to thee I'll send. What time my heart is overwhelm'd, and in perplexity, Do thou me lead unto the Rock that higher is than I.


I to remembrance God did call, yet trouble did remain; And overwhelm'd my spirit was, whilst I did sore complain.


By night my song I call to mind, and commune with my heart; My sp'rit did carefully enquire how I might ease my smart.
