He did not humble himself before the Lord, as his father Manasseh had humbled himself, but this Amon incurred more and more guilt.

For the Lord of hosts has a day against all that is proud and lofty, against all that is lifted up and high;


Look at the proud! Their spirit is not right in them, but the righteous live by their faithfulness.


even considering the exceptional character of the revelations. Therefore, to keep me from being too elated, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me, to keep me from being too elated.


Do not eat it, so that it may go well with you and your children after you, because you do what is right in the sight of the Lord.


“Be careful to obey all these words that I command you, so that it may go well with you and with your children after you forever, because you will be doing what is good and right in the sight of the Lord your God.


You must diligently observe everything that I command you; do not add to it or take anything from it.


You must carry out the law that they interpret for you or the ruling that they announce to you; do not turn aside from the decision that they announce to you, either to the right or to the left.


You must neither add anything to what I command you nor take away anything from it, but keep the commandments of the Lord your God with which I am charging you.


You must therefore be careful to do as the Lord your God has commanded you; you shall not turn to the right or to the left.


Remember the long way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, in order to humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commandments.


In the same way, you who are younger must be subject to the elders. And all of you must clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”


Samuel told the people the rights and duties of the kingship, and he wrote them in a book and laid it up before the Lord. Then Samuel sent all the people back to their homes.


For rebellion is no less a sin than divination, and stubbornness is like iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has also rejected you from being king.”
