For who knows what is good for mortals while they live the few days of their vain life, which they pass like a shadow? For who can tell them what will be after them under the sun?


In my vain life I have seen everything; there are righteous people who perish in their righteousness, and there are wicked people who prolong their life in their evildoing.


It is good that you should take hold of the one without letting go of the other, for the one who fears God shall succeed with both.


No one has power over the wind to restrain the wind or power over the day of death; there is no discharge from the battle, nor does wickedness deliver those who practice it.


Woe to the guilty! How unfortunate they are, for what their hands have done shall be done to them.


therefore this iniquity shall become for you like a break in a high wall, bulging out and about to collapse, whose crash comes suddenly, in an instant;


There is no peace, says my God, for the wicked.


No more shall there be in it an infant who lives but a few days or an old person who does not live out a lifetime, for one who dies at a hundred years will be considered a youth, and one who falls short of a hundred will be considered accursed.


They have shown no contrition or fear to this day, nor have they walked in my law and my statutes that I set before you and before your ancestors.


Then once more you shall see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.


and will come out: those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of condemnation.


Yet you do not even know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.


And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their condemnation, pronounced against them long ago, has not been idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
