He then said to Jeroboam, “Take for yourself ten pieces, for thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: See, I am about to tear the kingdom from the hand of Solomon and will give you ten tribes.


This is because he has forsaken me, worshiped Astarte the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the Ammonites, and has not walked in my ways, doing what is right in my sight and keeping my statutes and my ordinances, as his father David did.


but I will take the kingdom away from his son and give it to you—that is, the ten tribes.


If you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your life.”


and that he would tell you the secrets of wisdom! For wisdom is many-sided. Know then that God exacts of you less than your guilt deserves.


He does not deal with us according to our sins nor repay us according to our iniquities.


Then you spoke in a vision to your faithful one and said, “I have set the crown on one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people.


Incline your ear, and come to me; listen, so that you may live. I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David.


O Lord, I have heard of your renown, and I stand in awe, O Lord, of your work. In our own time revive it; in our own time make it known; in wrath may you remember mercy.
