Addiction and bad habits can be so destructive. Think about it, addiction is clinging to something—a behavior, a substance, an activity, even a person—that's actually harming you. So many of us struggle with these things, feeling trapped by a vice or an addiction. Sometimes, we feel like it's because of our past.
But here's the truth: in God, we're free. Christ set us free from all of that and forgave our sins. If you keep dwelling on the past, those chains can really hold you back. Sometimes, these struggles can even stem from negative spiritual influences, finding a foothold and coming to light when we unknowingly open a door, giving the enemy a legal right to step in.
You have the power to let go of what's binding you. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas of bondage you need to address. Receive God's forgiveness and His healing. He's there for you.
I pray that we all find freedom from anything that's hurting us and holding us back. Just like it says in John 8:36, "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."
Husbands, love your own wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
in order that He might sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing of water by the word,
And if anyone should have recently taken a wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall anything be laid upon him; he shall be free in his house; for one year he shall cheer his wife whom he has taken.
And if one should prevail against him, the two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord shall not be quickly broken.
Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
Wives, subject yourselves to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them.
He that has found a good wife has found favors, and has received favor from God. (18:22A) He that puts away a good wife, puts away a good thing, and he that keeps an adulteress is foolish and ungodly.
Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband.
The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.
"For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh."
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on hearts of compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience;
forbearing one another and forgiving yourselves, if anyone should have a complaint against any; just as Christ forgave you, so you also do.
But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
And whatever you may do in word or deed, do all things in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.
But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;
neither wickedness, nor foolish talk or coarse jesting, which are not proper, but rather thanksgiving.
For this you know, that no fornicator, or unclean person, nor covetous person, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
but speaking the truth in love, we may grow up in all things into Him who is the head--Christ;
Wives, subject yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Lord,
because the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
But just as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your own wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
in order that He might sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing of water by the word,
that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and blameless.
So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he that loves his own wife loves himself.
For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as also the Lord does the church.
For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.
"For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh."
This is a great mystery, but I speak in reference to Christ and to the church.
Nevertheless you also individually, let each one love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respect her husband.
Husbands, love your own wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
because the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they shall pass away; whether there are tongues, they shall cease; whether there is knowledge, it shall pass away.
Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.
Let not mercy and truth forsake you; but bind them about your neck:
so shall you find favor; and provide things honest in the sight of the Lord, and of men.
Wives, likewise, subject yourselves to your own husbands, so that even if some are disobedient to the word, that by the conduct of their wives, without a word, they shall be gained for Christ,
when they observe your chaste conduct with fear.
Of whom let it not be the outward adorning of braiding of hair, and wearing of gold, or of putting on of fine clothes,
rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible attitude of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious before God.
For thus formerly, the holy women who hoped on God also adorned themselves, subjecting themselves to their own husbands,
as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, of whom you became children, when you do good and are not afraid of any terror.
Husbands, likewise, live together according to knowledge as with a weaker vessel, with the wife, showing her honor as also a fellow heir of the grace of life, in order that your prayers may not be hindered.
Who shall find a virtuous woman? For such a one is more valuable than precious stones.
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
And above all things have fervent love for one another, because "love will cover a multitude of sins."
Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,
having been rooted and built up in Him and being established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
Beware lest anyone captures you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.
For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;
and you are completed in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone, let Us make for him a helper suitable to him.
And see life with the wife whom you love, all the days of the life of your vanity, which are given to you under the sun; for that is your portion in your life, and in your labor in which you labor under the sun.
desiring to be teachers of the law, not understanding either what they say or what they affirm.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become as sounding brass or a clashing cymbal.
Love is patient, love is kind; love does not envy; love does not boast, is not puffed up;
does not behave disgracefully, does not seek its own, is not provoked to anger, thinks no evil;
does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;
bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.'
But I say to you, that whoever looks at a woman in order to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave, her shafts are shafts of fire, even the flames thereof.
Much water will not be able to quench love, and rivers shall not drown it; if a man would give all his substance for love, men would utterly despise it.
And God made man, according to the image of God He made him, male and female He made them.
And God blessed them, saying, Increase and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the seas and flying creatures of heaven, and all the cattle and all the earth, and all the reptiles that creep on the earth.
Who shall find a virtuous woman? For such a one is more valuable than precious stones.
The heart of her husband trusts in her; such a one shall stand in no need of fine spoils.
For she employs all her living for her husband's good.
with all humility and meekness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,
being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.
Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband.
The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.
Do not deprive one another, except by mutual agreement, and that for a season, so that you may devote yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, lest Satan tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being united in spirit, intending the same purpose,
doing nothing according to selfish ambition or conceit, but with humility, regarding one another as being better than yourselves.
Let each of you look out not only for his own concerns, but also for the concerns of others.
Be warmly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor preferring one another;
For you, brothers were called to freedom; only do not use freedom for an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Better is an entertainment of herbs with friendliness and kindness, than a feast of calves, with enmity.
Therefore I desire that the younger widows to marry, to bear children, to manage the house, to give no opportunity to the adversary because of reproach.
A Song of Degrees. Except the Lord build the house, they that build labor in vain: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman watches in vain.
And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,'
and He said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?
So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."
Now to those who have married I command, yet not I, but the Lord: A wife is not to be separated from her husband--
and even if she does separate, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband--and a husband is not to divorce his wife.
"Furthermore it has been said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a divorce certificate.'
"But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except for a matter of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorcee commits adultery.
But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control--against such things there is no law.
Fathers divide house and substance to their children, but a wife is suited to a man by the Lord.
My sister, my spouse, you have ravished my heart; you have ravished my heart with one of your eyes, with one chain of your neck.
So shall the sayings of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be pleasing continually before You, O Lord my helper, and my redeemer.
