And he took the cities of defence of Yehuḏah and came to Yerushalayim.
Therefore He brought against them the sovereign of the Kasdim, and he killed their young men with the sword in the House of their set-apart place, and had no compassion on young man or maiden, on the aged or the weak – He gave all into his hand.
“Yet I had planted you a choice vine, all of it a true seed. How then have you turned before Me into the degenerate plant of a strange vine?
see, I am sending and taking all the tribes of the north,’ declares יהוה, ‘and Neḇuḵaḏretstsar the sovereign of Baḇel, My servant, and shall bring them against this land and against its inhabitants, and against these nations all around, and shall put them under the ban, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and everlasting ruins.
For I am with you,’ declares יהוה, ‘to save you. Though I make a complete end of all nations where I have scattered you, yet I do not make a complete end of you. But I shall reprove you in judgment, and by no means leave you unpunished.’
And the Kasdim burned the house of the sovereign and the houses of the people with fire, and they broke down the walls of Yerushalayim.
For thus said יהוה, “All the earth shall be a ruin, but I shall not make a complete end.
“Do not fear, O Ya‛aqoḇ My servant,” declares יהוה, “for I am with you. Though I make a complete end of all the nations to which I have driven you, yet I do not make a complete end of you. But I shall reprove you in right-ruling, and by no means leave you unpunished.”
“For the house of Yisra’ĕl and the house of Yehuḏah have utterly betrayed Me,” declares יהוה.
“But even in those days,” declares יהוה, “I shall not make a complete end of you.
“Would I not punish them for this?” declares יהוה. “And would I not revenge Myself on such a nation as this?
“But I shall let a few of their men escape from the sword, from scarcity of food, and from pestilence, so that they recount all their abominations among the nations wherever they go. And they shall know that I am יהוה.”
“Or if I bring a sword on that land, and I shall say, ‘Sword, go through the land,’ and I shall cut off man and beast from it,
then He said, “Call his name Lo-Ammi, for you are not My people, and I am not for you.
“Look, the eyes of the Master יהוה are on the sinful reign, and I shall destroy it from the face of the earth, except that, I do not completely destroy the house of Ya‛aqoḇ,” declares יהוה.
“But when the sovereign heard, he was wroth, and sent out his soldiers, destroyed those murderers, and set their city on fire.
