Ezra 8:17 - The Scriptures 2009

And I gave them a command for Iddo the chief man at the place Kasiphya, and put in their mouth words to speak to Iddo and his brothers the Nethinim at the place Kasiphya, to bring us servants for the House of our Elohim.

For your servant Yo’aḇ commanded me, and he put all these words in the mouth of your female servant.


“Then you shall go to the sovereign and speak to him according to this word.” And Yo’aḇ put the words in her mouth.


And the first inhabitants who were in their possessions in their cities of Yisra’ĕl, were the priests, the Lĕwites, and the Nethinim.


The Nethinim: sons of Tsiḥa, sons of Ḥasupha, sons of Tabba‛oth,


All the Nethinim and the children of Shelomoh’s servants were three hundred and ninety-two.


And some of the children of Yisra’ĕl, and the priests, and the Lĕwites, and the singers, and the gatekeepers, and the Nethinim came up to Yerushalayim in the seventh year of Sovereign Artaḥshashta.


Then I sent for Eli‛ezer, for Ari’ĕl, for Shemayah, and for Elnathan, and for Yariḇ, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zeḵaryah, and for Meshullam, leaders – also for Yoyariḇ and Elnathan, men of understanding.


“And you shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth. And I am with your mouth and with his mouth, and I shall teach you what to do.


Then יהוה put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and יהוה said to me, “See, I have put My words in your mouth.


Therefore thus said יהוה, “If you turn back, then I shall bring you back. Before Me you shall stand. And if you take out the precious from the worthless, you shall become as My mouth. Let them return to you, but do not return to them.


“And see, I Myself have taken your brothers the Lĕwites from the midst of the children of Yisra’ĕl – a gift to you, given by יהוה, to do the service of the Tent of Appointment.


I shall raise up for them a Prophet like you out of the midst of their brothers. And I shall put My Words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.


The reason I left you in Crete was that you should straighten out what was left undone, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you:
