And in the reign of Aḥashwĕrosh, in the beginning of his reign, they wrote an accusation against the inhabitants of Yehuḏah and Yerushalayim.


And Sovereign Aḥashwĕrosh laid compulsory labour on the land and the islands of the sea.


and let the sovereign appoint officers in all the provinces of his reign, and let them gather all the lovely young maidens to the citadel of Shushan, into the women’s quarters, under the hand of Hĕḡai the sovereign’s eunuch, guardian of the women, to give their preparations.


So the sovereign’s scribes were called at that time, in the third new moon, which is the new moon of Siwan, on the twenty-third day. And Mordeḵai sent letters to all the Yehuḏim, to the hundred and twenty-seven provinces of the reign of Aḥashwĕrosh, words of peace and truth,


Woe to the land shadowed with whirring wings, which is beyond the rivers of Kush,

“And now I declare the truth to you: See, three more sovereigns are to arise in Persia, and the fourth is to become far richer than them all. And by his power, through his riches, he stirs up all against the rulership of Greece.


It pleased Dareyawesh to appoint over the reign one hundred and twenty viceroys, to be over all the reign,
