Psalm 39:1

that the Lord may establish his word that he spoke concerning me, saying, ‘If your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk before me in faithfulness with all their heart and with all their soul, you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’


But Jehu was not careful to walk in the law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam, which he made Israel to sin.


With them were Heman and Jeduthun and the rest of those chosen and expressly named to give thanks to the Lord, for his steadfast love endures forever.


But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.


How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.


those who say, “With our tongue we will prevail, our lips are with us; who is master over us?”


Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!


Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.


For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation.


I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me.


Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.


Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.


Therefore he who is prudent will keep silent in such a time, for it is an evil time.


Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.


Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.


If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.
