Then David spoke to the Lord when he saw the angel who was striking the people, and said, “Behold, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand be against me and against my father’s house.”


Then the officials and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, “This man does not deserve the sentence of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”


Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no guilt in this man.”


I found that he was being accused about questions of their law, but charged with nothing deserving death or imprisonment.


Then a great clamor arose, and some of the scribes of the Pharisees’ party stood up and contended sharply, “We find nothing wrong in this man. What if a spirit or an angel spoke to him?”


But I found that he had done nothing deserving death. And as he himself appealed to the emperor, I decided to go ahead and send him.


When they had examined me, they wished to set me at liberty, because there was no reason for the death penalty in my case.


having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.
