1 Samuel 25:39 - English Standard Version 2016

39 When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, “Blessed be the Lord who has avenged the insult I received at the hand of Nabal, and has kept back his servant from wrongdoing. The Lord has returned the evil of Nabal on his own head.” Then David sent and spoke to Abigail, to take her as his wife.

The king also said to Shimei, “You know in your own heart all the harm that you did to David my father. So the Lord will bring back your harm on your own head.


So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the wrath of the king abated.


But when it came before the king, he gave orders in writing that his evil plan that he had devised against the Jews should return on his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.


His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends.


You have rebuked the nations; you have made the wicked perish; you have blotted out their name forever and ever.


He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.


House and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.

I will bear the indignation of the Lord because I have sinned against him, until he pleads my cause and executes judgment for me. He will bring me out to the light; I shall look upon his vindication.


But we pray to God that you may not do wrong—not that we may appear to have met the test, but that you may do what is right, though we may seem to have failed.


Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.


The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.


“That the leaders took the lead in Israel, that the people offered themselves willingly, bless the Lord!


May the Lord therefore be judge and give sentence between me and you, and see to it and plead my cause and deliver me from your hand.”


Now then, my lord, as the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, because the Lord has restrained you from bloodguilt and from saving with your own hand, now then let your enemies and those who seek to do evil to my lord be as Nabal.


And David said to Abigail, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me!


For as surely as the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, who has restrained me from hurting you, unless you had hurried and come to meet me, truly by morning there had not been left to Nabal so much as one male.”


When the servants of David came to Abigail at Carmel, they said to her, “David has sent us to you to take you to him as his wife.”


And David said, “As the Lord lives, the Lord will strike him, or his day will come to die, or he will go down into battle and perish.
