13 And David said to his men, “Every man strap on his sword!” And every man of them strapped on his sword. David also strapped on his sword. And about four hundred men went up after David, while two hundred remained with the baggage.

Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.


Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.


Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.


Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.


Do not say, “I will repay evil”; wait for the Lord, and he will deliver you.


do not hastily bring into court, for what will you do in the end, when your neighbor puts you to shame?


So the men took some of their provisions, but did not ask counsel from the Lord.


And everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was bitter in soul, gathered to him. And he became commander over them. And there were with him about four hundred men.


Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed from Keilah, and they went wherever they could go. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he gave up the expedition.


So David’s young men turned away and came back and told him all this.


So David arose and went over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
