14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

A scoffer seeks wisdom in vain, but knowledge is easy for a man of understanding.


But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”


Many of them said, “He has a demon, and is insane; why listen to him?”


Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him,


even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.


But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.


“But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.


How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?


Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word.


One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul.


Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also conversed with him. And some said, “What does this babbler wish to say?” Others said, “He seems to be a preacher of foreign divinities”—because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection.


Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked. But others said, “We will hear you again about this.”


But since it is a matter of questions about words and names and your own law, see to it yourselves. I refuse to be a judge of these things.”


Rather they had certain points of dispute with him about their own religion and about a certain Jesus, who was dead, but whom Paul asserted to be alive.


For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.


For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe.


but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles,


For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.


It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.


But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual.


Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.


But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ.


This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.


But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.


But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.


And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.


It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit.
