Then David arose from the ground, and washed and anointed himself. And when he had changed his apparel, he went into the house of the Lord: and worshipped. And then he came into his own house, and he called for bread, and ate.


Sent to Thecua, and fetched from thence a wise woman: and said to her: Feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on mourning apparel, and be not anointed with oil, that thou mayest be as a woman that had a long time been mourning for one dead.


Touch ye not my anointed: and do no evil to my prophets.


At all times let thy garments be white, and let not oil depart from thy head.


And I washed thee with water and cleansed away thy blood from thee: and I anointed thee with oil.


But thou, when thou fastest anoint thy head, and wash thy face;


This Booz, with whose maids thou wast joined in the field, is our near kinsman: and, behold, this night he winnoweth barley in the threshing-floor.


And when he shall go to sleep, mark the place wherein he sleepeth. And thou shalt go in, and lift up the clothes wherewith he is covered towards his feet. And shalt lay thyself down there: and he will tell thee what thou must do.
