He stood in the midst of the field, and defended it, and defeated the Philistines. And the Lord gave a great victory.


And I will appoint a place for my people Israel; and I will plant them; and they shall dwell therein, and shall be disturbed no more. Neither shall the children of iniquity afflict them any more as they did before,


And he saw when they were in tribulation: and he heard their prayer.


And thou mayest tell in the ears of thy sons, and of thy grandsons, how often I have plagued the Egyptians, and wrought my signs amongst them: and you may know that I am the Lord.


Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thy inheritance, in thy most firm habitation which thou hast made, O Lord: thy sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.


For Pharao went in on horseback with his chariots and horsemen into the sea: and the Lord brought back upon them the waters of the sea. But the children of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst thereof.


Sending out hornets before, that shall drive away the Hevite, and the Chanaanite, and the Hethite, before thou come in.


Observe all things which this day I command thee. I myself will drive out before thy face the Amorrhite, and the Chanaanite, and the Hethite, and the Pherezite, and the Hevite, and the Jebusite.


Arise, arise, put on strength, O thou arm of the Lord: arise as in the days of old, in the ancient generations. Hast not thou struck the proud one, and wounded the dragon?


And they came in and possessed it: but they obeyed not thy voice and they walked not in thy law. And they did not any of those things that thou didst command them to do: and all these evils are come upon them.


But the others, that had been with him, said: No, we are not able to go up to this people, because they are stronger than we.


Remember the days of old: think upon every generation. Ask thy father, and he will declare to thee: thy elders and they will tell thee.


To destroy at thy coming very great nations, and stronger than thou art: and to bring thee in: and give thee their land for a possession, as thou seest at this present day.


When the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land, which thou art going in to possess, and shall have destroyed many nations before thee: the Hethite, and the Gergezite, and the Amorrhite, and the Chanaanite, and the Pherezite, and the Hevite, and the Jebusite: seven nations much more numerous than thou art, and stronger than thou:


And when they were fleeing from the children of Israel, and were in the descent of Beth-horon, the Lord cast down upon them great stones from heaven as far as Azeca. And many more were killed with the hailstones than were slain by the swords of the children of Israel.


And all their kings, and their lands he took and wasted at one onset: for the Lord the God of Israel fought for him.


So Josue took all the land, as the Lord spoke to Moses, and delivered it in possession to the children of Israel, according to their divisions and tribes. And the land rested from wars.


Not so much as one word, which he had promised to perform unto them, was made void: but all came to pass.


And I sent before you hornets: and I drove them out from their places, the two kings of the Amorrhites, not with thy sword nor with thy bow.


And again he said: By this you shall know that the Lord the living God is in the midst of you, and that he shall destroy before your sight the Chanaanite and the Hethite, the Hevite and the Pherezite, the Gergesite also and the Jebusite, and the Amorrhite.


And Gedeon said to him: I beseech thee, my lord, if the Lord be with us, why have these evils fallen upon us? Where are his miracles, which our fathers have told us of, saying: The Lord brought us out of Egypt? But now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of Madian.
