And Sanaballat the Horonite, and Tobias the servant, the Ammonite: heard it, and it grieved them exceedingly, that a man was come, who sought the prosperity of the children of Israel.


And it came to pass, that when Sanaballat heard that we were building the wall he was angry. And being moved exceedingly he scoffed at the Jews;


And it came to pass, when Sanaballat, and Tobias, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Azotians heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and the breaches began to be closed, that they were exceedingly angry.


Moreover in those days many letters were sent by the principal men of the Jews to Tobias, and from Tobias there came letters to them.


It is vain for you to rise before light, rise ye after you have sitten, you that eat the bread of sorrow. When he shall give sleep to his beloved,


my soul hath hoped in the Lord.


And overthrew the wheels of the chariots, and they were carried into the deep. And the Egyptians said: Let us flee from Israel; for the Lord fighteth for them against us.


And it shall be to me a name and a joy and a praise and a gladness before all the nations of the earth that shall hear of all the good things which I will do to them: and they shall fear and be troubled for all the good things and for all the peace that I will make for them.


There is no soothsaying in Jacob, nor divination in Israel. In their times it shall be told to Jacob and to Israel what God hath wrought.


And now, therefore, I say to you, refrain from these men, and let them alone; for if this council or this work be of men, it will come to nought;


And hearing these things we were affrighted, and our heart fainted away: neither did there remain any spirit in us at your coming in. For the Lord your God he is God in heaven above, and in the earth beneath.


I know that the Lord hath given this land to you: for the dread of you is fallen upon us, and all the inhabitants of the land have lost all strength.


Now when all the kings of the Amorrhites, who dwelt beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of Chanaan, who possessed the places near the great sea, had heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the children of Israel, till they passed over, their heart failed them: and there remained no spirit in them, fearing the coming in of the children of Israel.
