If thou shalt see the oppressions of the poor, and violent judgments, and justice perverted in the province, wonder not at this matter: for he that is high hath another higher, and there are others still higher than these:


And if he will not hear them: tell the church. And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and publican.


And going a little further, he fell upon his face, praying, and saying: My Father, if it be possible, let this chalice pass from me. Nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.


Again the second time, he went and prayed, saying: My Father, if this chalice may not pass away, but I must drink it, thy will be done.


And leaving them, he went again: and he prayed the third time, saying the selfsame word.


For after all these things do the heathens seek. For your Father knoweth that you have need of all these things.


But as soon as they perceived him to be a Jew, all with one voice, for the space of about two hours, cried out: Great is Diana of the Ephesians.
