For nation shall fight against nation, and city against city: for the Lord will trouble them with all distress.


Why shall I fear in the evil day? the iniquity of my heel shall encompass me.


And I will set the Egyptians to fight against the Egyptians: and they shall fight brother against brother, and friend against friend, city against city, kingdom against kingdom.


And it shall be at an instant suddenly. A visitation shall come from the Lord of hosts in thunder, and with earthquake, and with a great noise of whirlwind and tempest, and with the flame of devouring fire.


And they said to him: Thus saith Ezechias: This day is a day of tribulation and of rebuke and of blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.


What wilt thou say when he shall visit thee? For thou hast taught them against thee and instructed them against thy own head. Shall not sorrows lay hold on thee, as a woman in labour?


Thou that sittest in Libanus and makest thy nest in the cedars, how hast thou mourned when sorrows came upon thee, as the pains of a woman in labour?


Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation: and a great whirlwind shall go forth from the ends of the earth.


For I have heard the voice as of a woman in travail, anguishes as of a woman in labor of a child. The voice of the daughter of Sion, dying away, spreading her hands: Woe is me, for my soul hath fainted because of them that are slain.


Damascus is undone: she is put to flight; trembling hath seized on her. Anguish and sorrows have taken her as a woman in labour.


The king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, and his hands are grown feeble: anguish hath taken hold of him, pangs as a woman in labour.


We have heard the fame thereof, our hands grow feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, as a woman in labor.


Speak to Zorobabel the governor of Juda, saying: I will move both heaven and earth.


In that day there shall be a great tumult from the Lord among them: and a man shall take the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall be clasped upon his neighbour's hand.


Now all these are the beginnings of sorrows.


And when you shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, fear ye not. For such things must needs be, but the end is not yet.


But look to yourselves. For they shall deliver you up to councils, and in the synagogues you shall be beaten, and you shall stand before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony unto them.


And one of them named Agabus, rising up, signified by the Spirit, that there should be a great famine over the whole world, which came to pass under Claudius.


For when they shall say, peace and security; then shall sudden destruction come upon them, as the pains upon her that is with child, and they shall not escape.


And there went out another horse that was red: and to him that sat thereon, it was given that he should take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another, and a great sword was given to him.
