Let his roots be dried up beneath: and his harvest destroyed above.


I am afflicted and humbled exceedingly: I roared with the groaning of my heart.


And in the multitude of thy glory thou hast put down thy adversaries: thou hast sent thy wrath, which hath devoured them like stubble.


And surely their stock was neither planted, nor sown, nor rooted in the earth. Suddenly he hath blown upon them, and they are withered: and a whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.


Who hath raised up the just one from the east, hath called him to follow him? He shall give the nations in his sight, and he shall rule over kings: he shall give them as the dust to his sword, as stubble driven by the wind, to his bow.


Behold, they are as stubble, fire hath burnt them, they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flames: there are no coals wherewith they may be warmed, nor fire, that they may sit thereat.


Therefore, as the tongue of the fire devoureth the stubble, and the heat of the flame consumeth it: so shall their root be as ashes, and their bud shall go up as dust: for they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and have blasphemed the word of the Holy One of Israel.


For wickedness is kindled as a fire. It shall devour the brier and the thorn, and shall kindle in the thicket of the forest: and it shall be wrapped up in smoke ascending on high.


By the wrath of the Lord of hosts the land is troubled, and the people shall be as fuel for the fire: no man shall spare his brother.


And I will pick out from among you the transgressors and the wicked and will bring them out of the land where they sojourn: and they shall not enter into the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am the Lord.


Thou shalt be fuel for the fire, thy blood shall be in the midst of the land: thou shalt be forgotten. For I, the Lord, have spoken it.


Then set it empty upon burning coals, that it may be hot and the brass thereof may be melted: and let the filth of it be melted in the midst thereof and let the rust of it be consumed.


And as for you, O my flocks, thus saith the Lord God: Behold I judge between cattle and cattle, of rams and of he goats.


Behold the day, behold it is come: destruction is gone forth, the rod hath blossomed, pride hath budded.


Blow ye the trumpet in Sion, sound an alarm in my holy mountain, let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: because the day of the Lord cometh, because it is nigh at hand,


The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood: before the great and dreadful day of the Lord doth come.


Yet I cast out the Amorrhite before their face: whose height was like the height of cedars, and who was strong as an oak: and I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots beneath.


And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau stubble: and they shall be kindled in them, and shall devour them: and there shall be no remains of the house of Esau, for the Lord hath spoken it.


For as thorns embrace one another: so while they are feasting and drinking together, they shall be consumed as stubble that is fully dry.


The great day of the Lord is near, it is near and exceeding swift: the voice of the day of the Lord is bitter, the mighty man shall there meet with tribulation.


Neither shall their silver and their gold be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord: all the land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy, for he shall make even a speedy destruction of all them that dwell in the land.


Behold the days of the Lord shall come, and thy spoils shall be divided in the midst of thee.


Wherefore now we call the proud people happy, for they that work wickedness are built up, and they have tempted God and are preserved.


And you shall return, and shall see the difference between the just and the wicked: and between him that serveth God, and him that serveth him not.


And who shall be able to think of the day of his coming? and who shall stand to see him? for he is like a refining fire, and like the fuller's herb:


And he shall sit refining and cleansing the silver, and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and shall refine them as gold, and as silver, and they shall offer sacrifices to the Lord in justice.


Behold I will send you Elias the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.


Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his floor and gather his wheat into the barn; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.


For the days shall come upon thee, and thy enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and straiten thee on every side,


And when you shall see Jerusalem compassed about with an army; then know that the desolation thereof is at hand.


Be glad in that day and rejoice; for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For according to these things did their fathers to the prophets.


In a flame of fire, giving vengeance to them who know not God, and who obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.


But the heavens and the earth which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of the ungodly men.
