And David danced with all his might before the Lord. And David was girded with a linen ephod.


A gradual canticle. Unless the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it. Unless the Lord keep the city, he watcheth in vain that keepeth it.


Let them praise his name in choir: let them sing to him with the timbrel and the psaltery.


Praise him with timbrel and choir: praise him with strings and organs.


For my life is wasted with grief: and my years in sighs. My strength is weakened through poverty and my bones are disturbed.


So Mary the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand: and all the women went forth after her with timbrels and with dances:


A time to weep, and a time to laugh. A time to mourn, and a time to dance.


And I will build thee again, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel. Thou shalt again be adorned with thy timbrels and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.


Because this my son was dead, and is come to life again: was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.


And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.


They are like to children sitting in the marketplace, and speaking one to another, and saying: We have piped to you, and you have not danced: we have mourned, and you have not wept.
