God said also to Abraham: Sarai, thy wife, thou shalt not call Sarai, but Sara.


Neither shall thy name be called any more Abram. But thou shalt be called Abraham: because I have made thee a father of many nations.


But he said: Thy name shall not be called Jacob, but Israel: for if thou hast been strong against God, how much more shalt thou prevail against men?


And I went to the prophetess, and she conceived, and bore a son. And the Lord said to me: Call his name, Hasten to take away the spoils: Make haste to take away the prey.


And go forth into the valley of the son of Ennom, which is by the entry of the earthen gate: and there thou shalt proclaim the words that I shall tell thee.


Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that this place shall no more be called Topheth, nor the valley of the son of Ennom, but the valley of slaughter.


For I heard the reproaches of many, and terror on every side: Persecute him, and, let us persecute him: from all the men that were my familiars and continued at my side: if by any means he may be deceived and we may prevail against him and be revenged on him.


So Sophonias the priest read this letter in the hearing of Jeremias the prophet.


What then? I have seen them dismayed and turning their backs, their valiant ones slain. They fled apace and they looked not back: terror was round about, saith the Lord.


Go not out into the fields, nor walk in the highway: for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side.


Therefore, behold, the days shall come, saith the Lord, and it shall no more be called Topheth, nor the valley of the son of Ennom: but the valley of slaughter. And they shall bury in Topheth, because there is no place.


Thau. Thou hast called as to a festival those that should terrify me round about, and there was none in the day of the wrath of the Lord that escaped and was left: those that I brought up and nourished, my enemy hath consumed them.


And my hand shall be upon the prophets that see vain things and that divine lies. They shall not be in the council of my people, nor shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel: neither shall they enter into the land of Israel: and you shall know that I am the Lord God.


And bringing them out, he said: Masters, what must I do, that I may be saved?
