The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the lioness, and the teeth of the whelps of lions are broken.


The wicked are alienated from the womb; they have gone astray from the womb: they have spoken false things.


Your land is desolate, your cities are burnt with fire: your country strangers devour before your face, and it shall be desolate as when wasted by enemies.


BEHOLD, the Lord shall lay waste the earth, and shall strip it, and shall afflict the face thereof and scatter abroad the inhabitants thereof.


Their roaring like that of a lion: they shall roar like young lions. Yea they shall roar and take hold of the prey, and they shall keep fast hold of it, and there shall be none to deliver it.


These things are in my ears, saith the Lord of hosts: unless many great and fair houses shall become desolate, without an inhabitant.


And I said: How long, O Lord? And he said: Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land shall be left desolate.


Behold, the sound of a noise cometh, a great commotion out of the land of the north: to make the cities of Juda a desert and a dwelling for dragons.


And thou shalt prophesy unto them all these words, and thou shalt say to them: The Lord shall roar from on high and shall utter his voice from his holy habitation: roaring he shall roar upon the place of his beauty. The shout as it were of them that tread grapes shall be given out against all the inhabitants of the earth.


Behold, I will send, and take all the kindreds of the north, saith the Lord, and Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon my servant: and I will bring them against this land and against the inhabitants thereof and against all the nations that are round about it: and I will destroy them and make them an astonishment and a hissing and perpetual desolations.


Why hath he prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying: This house shall be like Silo, and this city shall be made desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered together against Jeremias in the house of the Lord.


Thus saith the Lord: There shall be heard again in this place (which you say is desolate because there is neither man nor beast in the cities of Juda and without Jerusalem, which are desolate without man and without inhabitant and without beast).


Behold, I will command, saith the Lord, and I will bring them again to this city: and they shall fight against it and take it and burn it with fire. And I will make the cities of Juda a desolation, without an inhabitant.


The lion is come up out of his den, and the robber of nations hath roused himself: he is come forth out of his place to make thy land desolate. Thy cities shall be laid waste, remaining without an inhabitant.


So that the Lord could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings and because of the abominations which you have committed. Therefore your land is become a desolation and an astonishment and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.


Wherefore a lion out of the wood hath slain them, a wolf in the evening hath spoiled them, a leopard watcheth for their cities: every one that shall go out thence shall be taken, because their transgressions are multiplied, their rebellions are strengthened.


Israel is a scattered flock, the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria devoured him, and last this Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon hath broken his bones.


They shall roar together like lions: they shall shake their manes like young lions.


Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee, lest I make thee desolate, a land uninhabited.


For the mountains I will take up weeping and lamentation, and for the beautiful places of the desert, mourning: because they are burnt up, for that there is not a man that passeth through them. And they have not heard the voice of the owner: from the fowl of the air to the beasts, they are gone away and departed.


And I will make Jerusalem to be heaps of sand, and dens of dragons: and I will make the cities of Juda desolate, for want of an inhabitant.


Therefore prophesy, and say: Thus saith the Lord God: Because you have been desolate, and trodden under foot on every side, and made an inheritance to the rest of the nations, and are become the subject of the talk, and the reproach of the people:


And I will make thee desolate and a reproach among the nations that are round about thee, in the sight of every one that passeth by.


They shall walk after the Lord, he shall roar as a lion: because he shall roar, and the children of the sea shall fear.


For I will be like a lioness to Ephraim, and like a lion's whelp to the house of Juda: I, I will catch, and go: I will take away, and there is none that can rescue.


Thus saith the Lord: As if a shepherd should get out of the lion's mouth two legs, or the tip of the ear: so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria, in a piece of a bed, and in the couch of Damascus.


Will a lion roar in the forest, if he have no prey? will the lion's whelp cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?


The lion shall roar, who will not fear? The Lord God hath spoken, who shall not prophesy?


Where is now the dwelling of the lions, and the feeding place of the young lions, to which the lion went, to enter in thither, the young lion, and there was none to make them afraid?


Neither shall their silver and their gold be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord: all the land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy, for he shall make even a speedy destruction of all them that dwell in the land.


Woe to you that inhabit the sea coast, O nation of reprobates: the word of the Lord upon you, O Chanaan, the land of the Philistines, and I will destroy thee, so that there shall not be an inhabitant.


I have destroyed the nations, and their towers are beaten down: I have made their ways desert, so that there is none that passeth by: their cities are desolate, there is not a man remaining, nor any inhabitant.


The voice of the howling of the shepherds, because their glory is laid waste: the voice of the roaring of the lions, because the pride of the Jordan is spoiled.


Then Samson went down with his father and mother to Thamnatha. And when they were come to the vineyards of the town, behold a young lion met him raging and roaring.
