But they did not hearken: but did according to their old custom.


Though thou shouldst bray a fool in the mortar, as when a pestle striketh upon sodden barley, his folly would not be taken from him.


The perverse are hard to be corrected, and the number of fools is infinite.


For what shall I strike you any more, you that increase transgression? the whole head is sick, and the whole heart is sad.


The heart is perverse above all things and unsearchable. Who can know it?


Though thou wash thyself with nitre and multiply to thyself the herb borith, thou art stained in thy iniquity before me, saith the Lord God.


In vain have I struck your children: they have not received correction. Your sword hath devoured your prophets: your generation is like a ravaging lion.


For my foolish people have not known me: they are foolish and senseless children. They are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.


O Lord, thy eyes are upon truth: thou hast struck them, and they have not grieved: thou hast bruised them, and they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than the rock and they have refused to return.


And a man shall mock his brother, and they will not speak the truth: for they have taught their tongue to speak lies, they have laboured to commit iniquity.


And when this was told Saul he sent other messengers: but they also prophesied. And again Saul sent messengers the third time: and they prophesied also. And Saul being exceedingly angry,
