They sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his age. And they wondered very much:


And Joseph, seeing that his father had put his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, was much displeased: and taking his father's hand he tried to lift it from Ephraim's head, and to remove it to the head of Manasses.


But he refusing, said: I know, my son, I know. And this also shall become peoples, and shall be multiplied: but this younger brother shall be greater than he: and his seed shall grow into nations.


Ruben, my firstborn, thou art my strength, and the beginning of my sorrow: excelling in gifts, greater in command.


It shall not be so: but go ye men only, and sacrifice to the Lord; for this yourselves also desired. And immediately they were cast out from Pharao's presence.


The wise answered, saying: Lest perhaps there be not enough for us and for you, go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.


But Peter said: Far be it from me; for I never did eat any thing that is common and unclean.


And I said: Not so, Lord; for nothing common or unclean hath ever entered into my mouth.
