And he called the name of the first born Manasses, saying: God hath made me to forget all my labours, and my father's house.


And he named the second Ephraim, saying: God hath made me to grow in the land of my poverty.


And sons were born to Joseph, in the land of Egypt, whom Aseneth the daughter of Putiphare priest of Heliopolis bore him: Manasses and Ephraim.


And he set Ephraim on his right hand, that is, towards the left hand of Israel; but Manasses on his left hand, to wit, towards his father's right hand: and brought them near to him.


And Joseph, seeing that his father had put his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, was much displeased: and taking his father's hand he tried to lift it from Ephraim's head, and to remove it to the head of Manasses.


And he said to his father: It should not be so, my father: for this is the firstborn, put thy right hand upon his head.


Alleluia. I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; in the council of the just: and in the congregation.


I will think of thy justifications: I will not forget thy words.


Thy right hand, O Lord, is magnified in strength: thy right hand, O Lord, hath slain the enemy.


On the west side shall be the camp of the sons of Ephraim, whose prince was Elisama, the son of Ammiud.


And when the Levites are before the Lord, the children of Israel shall put their hands upon them.


And I have taken the Levites for all the firstborn of the children of Israel.


And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.


Then were little children presented to him, that he should impose hands upon them and pray. And the disciples rebuked them.


And when he had imposed hands upon them, he departed from thence.


And when ye pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, that love to stand and pray in the synagogues and corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men: Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.

Neglect not the grace that is in thee, which was given thee by prophesy, with imposition of the hands of the priesthood.


Impose not hands lightly upon any man, neither be partaker of other men's sins. Keep thyself chaste.
