And Sarai was barren, and had no children.


She said to her husband: Behold, the Lord hath restrained me from bearing. Go in unto my handmaid; it may be I may have children of her at least. And when he agreed to her request,


The Lord also remembering Rachel heard her, and opened her womb,


Gave them help. And the Agarites were delivered into their hands, and all that were with them, because they called upon God in the battle: and he heard them, because they had put their faith in him.


And he entreated him, and besought him earnestly. And he heard his prayer, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. And Manasses knew that the Lord was God.


And we fasted, and besought our God for this: and it fell out prosperously unto us.


Thy wife as a fruitful vine, on the sides of thy house. Thy children as olive plants, round about thy table.


I will teach the unjust thy ways: and the wicked shall be converted to thee.


sing ye a psalm to his name; give glory to his praise.


They shall still increase in a fruitful old age: and shall be well treated,


That which the wicked feareth, shall come upon him: to the just their desire shall be given.


Thus saith the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, his maker: Ask me of things to come, concerning my children, and concerning the work of my hands give ye charge to me.


Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall hear; thou shalt cry, and he shall say: Here I am. If thou wilt take away the chain out of the midst of thee and cease to stretch out the finger and to speak that which profiteth not.


And it shall come to pass that, before they call, I will hear; as they are yet speaking, I will hear.


But the angel said to him: Fear not, Zachary, for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John:


And they had no son, for that Elizabeth was barren, and they both were well advanced in years.


And she made a vow, saying: O Lord, of hosts if thou wilt look down on the affliction of thy servant, and wilt be mindful of me, and not forget thy handmaid, and wilt give to thy servant a man child: I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.


Then Heli said to her: Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition, which thou hast asked of him.


And he had two wives, the name of one was Anna, and the name of the other Phenenna. Phenenna had children: but Anna had no children.


For this child did I pray, and the Lord hath granted me my petition, which I asked of him.
