Now Sarai, the wife of Abram, had brought forth no children; but having a handmaid, an Egyptian, named Agar,


And Agar brought forth a son to Abram: who called his name Ismael.


And as for Ismael I have also heard thee. Behold, I will bless him, and increase, and multiply him exceedingly: he shall beget twelve chiefs, and I will make him a great nation.


And the child grew and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast on the day of his weaning.


So the posts went speedily from city to city, through the land of Ephraim, and of Manasses, even to Zabulon, whilst they laughed at them and mocked them.


But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused the prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people, and there was no remedy.


But now the younger in time scorn me, whose fathers I would not have set with the dogs of my flock.


And thy mercy will follow me all the days of my life. And that I may dwell in the house of the Lord unto length of days.


By his inclinations a child is known, if his works be clean and right.


Cast out the scoffer, and contention shall go out with him, and quarrels and reproaches shall cease.


Zain. Jerusalem hath remembered the days of her affliction and prevarication of all her desirable things which she had from the days of old, when her people fell in the enemy's hand and there was no helper: the enemies have seen her and have mocked at her sabbaths.


For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, and the other by a free woman.


But as then he, that was born according to the flesh, persecuted him that was after the spirit; so also it is now.


And others had trial of mockeries and stripes, moreover also of bands and prisons.
