A psalm of David, for Jeremias. Upon the rivers of Babylon, there we sat and wept: when we remembered Sion:

In all their affliction he was not troubled: and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love, and in his mercy he redeemed them: and he carried them and lifted them up all the days of old.


Heth. The mercies of the Lord that we are not consumed: because his commiserations have not failed.


The Lord is patient and full of mercy, taking away iniquity and wickedness, and leaving no man clear. Who visitest the sins of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation:


And the publican, standing afar off, would not so much as lift up his eyes towards heaven; but struck his breast, saying: O god, be merciful to me a sinner.

And delivered just Lot, oppressed by the injustice and lewd conversation of the wicked.


The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly from temptation, but to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be tormented.
