And blessed be the most high God, by whose protection the enemies are in thy hands. And he gave him the tithes of all.


Then the king, calling for the Gabaonites, said to them: (Now the Gabaonites were not of the children of Israel, but the remains of the Amorrhites: and the children of Israel had sworn to them, and Saul sought to slay them out of zeal, as it were for the children of Israel and Juda:)


And he said to him: The cities which my father took from thy father, I will restore. And do thou make thee streets in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria: and having made a league, I will depart from thee. So he made a league with him, and let him go.


Let us make a covenant with the Lord our God, to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the will of the Lord, and of them that fear the commandment of the Lord our God. Let it be done according to the law.


A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.


He that sacrificeth to gods, shall be put to death, save only to the Lord.


But Israel, binding himself by vow to the Lord, said: It thou wilt deliver this people into my hand, I will utterly destroy their cities.


Therefore kill all that are of the male sex, even of the children: and put to death the women that have carnally known men.


Destroy all the inhabitants of that land. Beat down their pillars, and break in pieces their statues, and waste all their high places,


Consent not to him, hear him not: neither let thy eye spare him to pity and conceal him.


But thou shalt presently put him to death. Let thy hand be first upon him: and afterwards the hands of all the people.


Thou shalt not pity him, and thou shalt take away the guilt of innocent blood out of Israel, that it may be well with thee.


And the Lord our God delivered him to us: and we slew him with his sons and all his people.


And we took all his cities at that time, killing the inhabitants of them, men and women and children. We left nothing of them:


That which thou art eased of (for the Lord thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thy enemies to thee). And let thy camp be holy, and let no uncleanness appear therein, lest he go away from thee.


Thou shalt cut off her hand, neither shalt thou be moved with any pity in her regard.


So the Lord our God delivered into our hands Og also the king of Basan, and all his people. And we utterly destroyed them:


Therefore when the Lord shall have delivered these also to you, you shall do in like manner to them as I have commanded you.


His dwelling is above, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He shall cast out the enemy from before thee, and shall say: Be thou brought to nought.


Thou shalt consume all the people, which the Lord thy God will deliver to thee. Thy eye shall not spare them: neither shalt thou serve their gods, lest they be thy ruin.


Thou shalt know therefore this day that the Lord thy God himself will pass over before thee, a devouring and consuming fire, to destroy and extirpate and bring them to nothing before thy face quickly, as he hath spoken to thee.


The same day Josue took Maceda and destroyed it, with the edge of the sword: and killed the king and all the inhabitants thereof. He left not in it the least remains. And he did to the king of Maceda, as he had done to the king of Jericho.


And the Lord delivered it with the king thereof into the hands of Israel. And they destroyed the city with the edge of the sword, and all the inhabitants thereof. They left not in it any remains. And they did to the king of Lebna, as they had done to the king of Jericho.


And the Lord delivered Lachis into the hands of Israel: and he took it the following day, and put it to the sword, and every soul that was in it, as he had done to Lebna.


So Josue conquered all the country of the hills and of the south and of the plain, and of Asedoth, with their kings. He left not any remains therein, but slew all that breathed, as the Lord the God of Israel had commanded him,


And all their kings, and their lands he took and wasted at one onset: for the Lord the God of Israel fought for him.


And the Lord delivered them into the hands of Israel. And they defeated them, and chased them as far as the great Sidon, and the waters of Maserophot, and the field of Masphe, which is on the east side thereof. He slew them all, so as to leave no remains of them.


They answered her: Be our lives for you unto death, only if thou betray us not. And when the Lord shall have delivered us the land, we will shew thee mercy and truth.


So all being slain that had pursued after Israel in his flight to the wilderness, and falling by the sword in the same place, the children of Israel returned and laid waste the city.


They answered: It was told us thy servants, that the Lord thy God had promised his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants thereof. Therefore we feared exceedingly and provided for our lives, compelled by the dread we had of you, and we took this counsel.


Perhaps you dwell in the land which falls to our lot: if so, we can make no league with you.


They saw a man coming out of the city, and they said to him: Shew us the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.


And Juda went up, and the Lord delivered the Chanaanite, and the Pherezite into their hands: and they slew of them in Bezec ten thousand men.


On condition that you should not make a league with the inhabitants of this land, but should throw down their altars. And you would not hear my voice. Why have you done this?
