Of these twenty-four thousand were chosen, and distributed unto the ministry of the house of the Lord: and six thousand were the overseers and judges.


But Chonenias and his sons were over the Isaarites, for the business abroad over Israel, to teach them and judge them.


And thou Esdras, according to the wisdom of thy God, which is in thy hand, appoint judges and magistrates, that may judge all the people that is beyond the river, that is for them who know the law of thy God. Yea and the ignorant teach ye freely.


And provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, in whom there is truth, and that hate avarice: and appoint of them rulers of thousands, and of hundreds, and of fifties, and of tens,


If men quarrel, and one strike a woman with child, and she miscarry indeed, but live herself: he shall be answerable for so much damage as the woman's husband shall require, and as arbiters shall award.


His master shall bring him to the gods, and he shall be set to the door and the posts, and he shall bore his ear through with an awl. And he shall be his servant for ever.


Her husband is honourable in the gates, when he sitteth among the senators of the land.


You have heard that it was said to them of old: Thou shalt not kill. And whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment.


But I say to you, that whosoever is angry with his brother, shall be in danger of the judgment. And whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council. And whosoever shall say, Thou Fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.


But every one shall offer according to what he hath, according to the blessing of the Lord his God, which he shall give him.


And not go aside to either part. Thou shalt not accept person nor gifts: for gifts blind the eyes of the wise, and change the words of the just.


But he that will be proud, and refuse to obey the commandment of the priest, who ministereth at that time to the Lord thy God, and the decree of the judge: that man shall die, and thou shalt take away the evil from Israel.


And thou shalt come to the priests of the Levitical race, and to the judge, that shall be at that time. And thou shalt ask of them. And they shall shew thee the truth of the judgment.


Thy ancients and judges shall go out, and shall measure from the place where the body lieth the distance of every city round about.


If there be a controversy between men, and they call upon the judges: they shall give the prize of justice to him whom they perceive to be just. And him whom they find to be wicked they shall condemn of wickedness.


And it came to pass when Samuel was old, that he appointed his sons to be judges over Israel.
