And Sarai said to Abram: Thou dost unjustly with me; I gave my handmaid into thy bosom, and she, perceiving herself to be with child, despiseth me. The Lord judge between me and thee.


I grieve for thee, my brother Jonathan: exceeding beautiful, and amiable to me above the love of women. As the mother loveth her only son, so did I love thee.


And Elias said to them: Take the prophets of Baal, and let not one of them escape. And when they had taken them, Elias brought them down to the torrent Cison, and killed them there.


And all the people of the land went into the temple of Baal, and broke down his altars: and his images they broke in pieces thoroughly. They slew also Mathan the priest of Baal before the altar. And the priest set guards in the house of the Lord.


And if any one, said he, seek not the Lord the God of Israel, let him die, whether little or great, man or woman.


And all the people went into the house of Baal, and destroyed it: and they broke down his altars and his idols. And they slew Mathan the priest of Baal before the altars.


And my heart in secret hath rejoiced, and I have kissed my hand with my mouth


And Moses said to the people: Remember this day in which you came forth out of Egypt, and out of the house of bondage, for with a strong hand hath the Lord brought you forth out of this place: that you eat no leavened bread.


And he said to them: Thus saith the Lord God of Israel: Put every man his sword upon his thigh. Go, and return from gate to gate through the midst of the camp, and let every man kill his brother, and friend, and neighbour.


A man amiable in society, shall be more friendly than a brother.


Why art thou seduced, my son, by a strange woman, and art cherished in the bosom of another?


And Jeremias the prophet said to Hananias the prophet: Hear now, Hananias: the Lord hath not sent thee, and thou hast made this people to trust in a lie.


Therefore, thus saith the Lord: Behold, I will send thee away from off the face of the earth: this year shalt thou die. For thou hast spoken against the Lord.


Because of the wickedness which they have committed, to provoke me to wrath, and to go and offer sacrifice and worship other gods which neither they, nor you nor your fathers knew.


And it shall come to pass, that when any man shall prophesy any more, his father and his mother that brought him into the world, shall say to him: Thou shalt not live: because thou best spoken a lie in the name of the Lord. And his father, and his mother, his parents, shall thrust him through, when he shall prophesy.


Wherefore henceforth, we know no man according to the flesh. And if we have known Christ according to the flesh; but now we know him so no longer.


But because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privately to spy our liberty, which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into servitude.


That henceforth we be no more children tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine by the wickedness of men, by cunning craftiness, by which they lie in wait to deceive


See therefore that you fulfil the ceremonies and judgments, which I shall set this day before you.


And that come to pass which he spoke, and he say to thee: Let us go and follow strange gods, which thou knowest not, and let us serve them:


Of all the nations round about, that are near or afar off, from one end of the earth to the other,


But he that will be proud, and refuse to obey the commandment of the priest, who ministereth at that time to the Lord thy God, and the decree of the judge: that man shall die, and thou shalt take away the evil from Israel.


But the prophet, who being corrupted with pride shall speak in my name things that I did not command him to say, or in the name of strange gods, shall be slain.


They shall render to him as he meant to do to his brother; and thou shalt take away the evil out of the midst of thee.


The people of the city shall stone him: and he shall die, that you may take away the evil out of the midst of you, and all Israel hearing it may be afraid.


They shall cast her out of the doors of her father's house: and the men of the city shall stone her to death, and she shall die: Because she hath done a wicked thing in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: and thou shalt take away the evil out of the midst of thee.


If any man be found soliciting his brother of the children of Israel, and selling him shall take a price, he shall be put to death: and thou shalt take away the evil from the midst of thee.


The man that is nice among you, and very delicate, shall envy his own brother, and his wife, that lieth in his bosom,


Lest perhaps there should be among you a man or a woman, a family or a tribe, whose heart is turned away this day from the Lord our God, to go and serve the gods of those nations: and there should be among you a root bringing forth gall and bitterness.


Thy heart be lifted up, and thou remember not the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.


Now this I say, that no man may deceive you by loftiness of words.


Arise, sanctify the people, and say to them: Be ye sanctified against to-morrow. For thus saith the Lord God of Israel: The anathema is in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thy enemies, till he be destroyed out of thee that is defiled with this wickedness.


But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there shall be among you lying teachers, who shall bring in sects of perdition, and deny the Lord who bought them: bringing upon themselves swift destruction.


And that great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, who seduceth the whole world; and he was cast unto the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.


And he seduced them that dwell on the earth, for the signs, which were given him to do in the sight of the beast, saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make the image of the beast, which had the wound by the sword, and lived.


And he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should no more seduce the nations, till the thousand years be finished. And after that, he must be loosed a little time.


But the children of Israel, adding new sins to their old ones, did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served idols, Baalim and Astaroth, and the gods of Syria and of Sidon and of Moab and of the children of Ammon and of the Philistines. And they left the Lord, and did not serve him.


Forsaking him, and serving Baal and Astaroth.


Deliver up the men of Gabaa, that have committed this heinous crime, that they may die, and the evil may be taken away out of Israel. But they would not hearken to the proposition of their brethren the children of Israel.


The Lord chose new wars, and he himself overthrew the gates of the enemies: a shield and spear was not seen among forty thousand of Israel.


And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.


And David and Jonathan made a covenant: for he loved him as his own soul.


And Jonathan swore again to David, because he loved him: for he loved him as his own soul.
