And a breach was made into the city: and all the men of war fled in the night between the two walls by the king's garden (now the Chaldees besieged the city round about). And Sedecias fled by the way that leadeth to the plains of the wilderness.


And they went after them as far as the Jordan. And, behold, all the way was full of garments, and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their fright. And the messengers returned and told the king.


In that day a man shall cast away his idols of silver and his idols of gold, which he had made for himself to adore, moles and bats.


For in that day a man shall cast away his idols of silver and his idols of gold, which your hands have made for you to sin.


And the city was broken up, and the men of war fled and went out of the city in the night by the way of the gate that is between the two walls and leadeth to the king's garden (the Chaldeans besieging the city round about): and they went by the way that leadeth to the wilderness.


And the prince that is in the midst of them shall be carried on shoulders: he shall go forth in the dark. They shall dig through the wall to bring him out: his face shall be covered, that he may not see the ground with his eyes.


Dig thee a way through the wall before their eyes: and thou shalt go forth through it.


Wherefore now they shall go captive at the head of them that go into captivity: and the faction of the luxurious ones shall be taken away.


Neither shall their silver and their gold be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord: all the land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy, for he shall make even a speedy destruction of all them that dwell in the land.


For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul? Or what exchange shall a man give for his soul?


Galaad rested beyond the Jordan, and Dan applied himself to ships. Aser dwelt on the sea-shore, and abode in the havens.
