And there were the three sons of Sarvia there, Joab, and Abisai, and Asael. Now Asael was a most swift runner, like one of the roes that abide in the woods.


So Joab was over all the army of Israel: and Banaias the son of Joiada was over the Cerethites and Phelethites.


And when they were at the great stone which is in Gabaon, Amasa coming met them. And Joab had on a close coat of equal length with his habit; and over it was girded with a sword hanging down to his flank, in a scabbard, made in such manner as to come out with the least motion and strike.


Asael the brother of Joab was one of the thirty, Elehanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem.


And Joab the son of Sarvia was over the army: and Josaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder:


And he conferred with Joab the son of Sarvia, and with Abiathar the priest, who furthered Adonias's side.


Thou knowest also what Joab the son of Sarvia hath done to me, what he did to the two captains of the army of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether: whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war on his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet.


And he said: Whosoever shall first strike the Jebusites shall be the head and chief captain. And Joab the son of Sarvia went up first, and was made the general.


And their sisters were Sarvia, and Abigail. The sons of Sarvia: Abisai, Joab, and Asael, three.


The fourth, for the fourth month, was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zabadias his son after him: and in his company were four and twenty thousand.


And taking all the men, they went out to fight against Ismahel the son of Nathanias: and they found him by the great waters that are in Gabaon.


David spoke to Achimelech the Hethite, and Abisai the son of Sarvia the brother of Joab, saying: Who will go down with me to Saul into the camp? And Abisai said: I will go with thee.
